Bug Reports / Re: Radiotext +

They are not cut off - entire RT+ is shifted by 2 characters. Probably the same 2 characters which can be found in the original text after the 'ON AIR:' prefix but which do not appear in the final RT. Such 2 characters are probably incorrect (not spaces). It's hard to say what the cause is without knowing more information. Especially the original text and the command being sent to the encoder (Overview - Communication Monitor)

I think I set some parameters incorrectly but suddenly I find myself with Radiotext + where the first two characters are cut off. ??

I generated an app password from my Google Account but unfortunately Google does not allow me to select SSL on the app also it is asking me to issue STARTTLS command first. How do I do that?

Program type assignment is different in the US, compared to rest of the world.

In the Magic RDS 4, select correct broadcast region in Options - Preferences - Local settings - PTY Coding

No such setup is required on the RDS encoders itself, as the PTY is actually a single number in range 0 to 31.

thank you for your help, not quite sure how it was turned off. didn't know it was possible, but it worked.
one more question, under music type my one setup had the different types of music, adult hits, classic rock,
oldies etc. but for this one it lists i.e. rock m, etc. not like the other one.  both are the same versions just didn't
know if there was a place to change it? thanks again

Simian tech support does not know how to setup their product to communicate with standard RDS encoder... Well.

A working setup for RT and RT+ is provided for example here: https://pira.cz/forum/index.php?topic=602.msg1970#msg1970

I'm not sure if Simian finally supports serial communication like other broadcast automation systems do. If only TCP/UDP communication option is provided, you'll need some kind of converter from TCP to serial. This can be realized either by commercially available hardware or by some software utility (for example Pira cz Remote COM Port) or by the Magic RDS 4 and its Virtual port feature.

Simian tech had no idea how to complete this task and I am an equal amount of clueless.  Anyone who had experience in this able to offer some guidance?  Thanks!

I have been working in this field for over 20 years, but I would never dare to put any RDS encoder into operation without measuring the final FM modulation using an FM analyzer, to verify that the deviation caused by RDS has the desired value of about 3.5 kHz. Keeping the factory default RDS level may be incorrect in many cases, because each FM broadcast equipment requires different level. See the explanation in the manual.

From the group order provided by the RDS Spy, I guess the problem isn't actually that the output isn't working. I see no 2A groups, which means that only Radiotext was turned off. The Radiotext is just one of the RDS functions, if you turn it off, the RDS still goes on.

To enable the Radiotext again, go to the Terminal and type
Code: [Select]
RT1EN=1
*RT1EN
GRPSEQ=
*GRPSEQ

or use equivalent fields in the GUI:
RDS Content - Radiotext - Radiotext 1 Enable
RDS Content - System - Groups Sequence - Default

thank you for the response, i'm not getting any output according on the RDS spy, even though it says the texts etc on the events.  i don''t have an FM
analyzer, small potatoes.  the output level is at 2016 mV peak-to-peak and the subcarrier is 19.0 degrees. the weird thing it has been fine, then out of the
blue it stopped etc. short of getting an engineer up here to look at this, what if any advice or maybe deleting or reinstalling the setup for the 164?

The P164 operates properly. Restarting your PC has no effect on the RDS operation. You may save your time and simply click on the RDS Spy button to see current RDS data. The P164 includes built-in RDS decoder which can be accessed that way even via Ethernet link.

I'm missing the RDS deviation value in your post, measured by an FM analyzer.

Recommended steps:
  • Check the RDS decoder data using the RDS Spy button
  • Check the RDS output level in Device Setup - Analog Control. There's no other 'secret' setting anywhere which can affect the RDS signal output.
  • Check the RDS deviation measured by your FM analyzer. This step cannot be skipped.
  • Check the FM transmitter or audio procesor setup, especially if appropriate RDS/SCA input is enabled
  • Disable all other RDS encoders, built in the FM broadcast equipment
  • Replace the BNC cable
