Problem TCP/IP control from P275 e FM Scope
« on: June 13, 2024, 09:19:14 am »
Hi all,
I have a P275E Fm Monitor. This hardware works fine with the serial port and the software FM Scope and I configured the IP correctly.
When I try to connect to P275E trough TCP/IP, the FM Scope tells me "Connected to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:port" correctly but when a try to click on Tune with frequency selected nothing is happening.
Anyone else have the same problem?

Firmware version of P275E is 7.0.0.3 and the FM Scope is the latest version

Thanks!

Jan

Run the Device Installer and make sure the serial port speed is set to 115200. See the device manual for details.

Hi! I have the same problem with multiple P275E units.
Seems like the port settings are all ok:
RS232, 115200, 8, None, 1, None.
Seems like the FM scope connects to the unit, but no reply at all.
When connecting via serial cable, the FM scope works fine.
What may go wrong?
The units were working fine for months, after some time it begin to be first unreliable, and then no connection via internet.
Is it possible that the built in Lantronix lost serial functionality? Something may be to check with oscilloscope?

Best

I administer the P275E devices for more than 7 years, some operating in outdoor conditions. They still work fine and such problem has never been reported by anybody. Thus I guess it is not a hardware issue. But who knows... Of course, we can replace your device with another one at any time under warranty.

Apply the latest fw version 2.2e r2. Go to the XPORT web interface and select Apply Defaults. Then go to the XPORT web interface again and configure the Network and Serial Channel according to the latest pdf manual.

If this does not help, disassemble the two internal boards and check/clean the golden-plated connector between them (referenced as J2 on both boards). The pin assignment can be found in the original P275 manual.

Hello Jan,

No luck, tried once more. The only thing what is communication with the motherboard, is the firmware update utility.
It seems fw update runs fine to 2.2e r2.
But after that there is no communication with fmscope. FM Scope opens the com port or network com port, but there is no data coming from the device.
Tried with two different devices.
Disassembled it, tried the connection between motherboard and ethernet to serial board with multimeter, the connection is ok.
There is no oxidation sign, even there are no bird's nests or mouse family integrated :), everything is clean and tidy.
FM scope is 1.7.1, OS is win11 pro x64. Lantronix version is 7.0. something, did not try to update it.
Tried with two different usb to serial converter.
I did not tired with micro usb cable.
Any idea to test? Maybe an online video call (viber or so?)?
Next day I may be take my oscilloscope, what can decode RS232 (never tried yet), and I may check the data pins of converter.

The firmware update works so there's probably nothing wrong with the device communication port. The firmware update uses the same communication channel like the FM Scope. I would focus on the PC software. I don't have any simple steps you can follow because such problem has never been reported. I would recommend to send the unit back to us for inspection. Try different PC first and turn off antivirus etc.

Hi,

maybe something to test via terminal app? did not check the command list, can you recommend something?
Will try with different pc, the pc is very standard and very new, no extra virus killer yet on the machine, fw is turned off for the tests.
Do I need to run FM Scope as admin?

In terminal, type for example ?F for getting current frequency. The terminal speed, if applies, shall be 19200.

Hi, most probably the lantronix is the cause of problems.
Tried with different PC, no luck, tried to measure any data on lantronix pins, no luck.
Tried to set up the gpio port on the lantronix to output, tried sending high / low, no luck.
The embedded web server works, but seems no electric signal on the pins.
When using the micro usb port without the lantronix board, every communication works fine.
So I'll send back the devices for checking.
Thanks for help.

Thanks for the information. Please feel free to contact me via email to arrange the replacement. I'm eager to find out what happened to the Lantronix HW or SW.
