P164 Port 2 Locks up
« on: September 12, 2024, 08:31:35 pm »
We have a 164 set up at transmitter site. Port 2 keeps locking up,I.e., staying lit but not receiving data. I have placed ferrite clamp on chokes on the input of the Ethernet jack and also on the power connector. I moved the device as far from the transmitter as I can. I thought it was RF at first but now I don’t know.  I also upgraded to the “g” Firmware.  When the ports locks up, the only way to clear it is by unplugging the power and restarting the unit. Then the unit works receiving title and artist data for about a day then locks again.  Anybody have other ideas? I am using shielded Cat6 cable.

The P164 never locks up. Unlike consumer network equipment, it contains hardware based watch dog. We guarantee the ability of the device to always recover the data transfer after any network failure or dropped TCP connection. It only needs to be set up in accordance with the instructions.

You probably set up the TCP parameters through the status website, keeping Inactivity, Fail-Safe Monitor and Keep Alive features disabled. This is not sufficient for final installation.

Placing ferrite beads is not required and has no effect on the operation.

The fail safe is enabled and I cannot get into the device remotely right now because of the port. I will go back to the transmitter tonight and see what I can do.

In the Magic RDS, after clicking on the Read button, you should see something like this:

Thanks. I definitely do not have it set to reset port 2.  I will do that tonight.

The software also automatically sets up the TCP Keep Alive so dropped TCP connections should be recognized almost immediately.

Dropped TCP connections (half-opened connections) occur for example when network router restarts. TCP protocol does not contain any mechanism for detecting of dropped TCP connection. Detection is based on periodic keep alive transmissions, data timeouts etc.
