IceCast as text source?

Is it possible to use IceCast as a text source to get song titles?

Yes, it is possible. The Magic RDS 4 can read and process html or XML file generated by the IceCast server. It can pick up the artist and title fields, using the internet website HTTP reader included in the External text sources.

There's a simple example:

  • For the IceCast you need a custom XSLT sheet and place it in (ProgramFiles)/Icecast/web directory. You may download that file below.
  • Try it in the web browser first, the address is usually http://localhost:8000/icecast2pira.xsl - change the host name and port number as required
  • If successful and if you can see the song artist & title, configure the Magic RDS 4: Tools - External Text Sources - Text Sources
    Source Type: Internet Website, continue exactly as shown on the picture below, click on the Test button.

Tested with IceCast server version 2.4.4
