serial port unresponsive
« on: August 23, 2017, 06:10:13 pm »
Hey gang,

I lost a PSU in a pc connected directly to a Pira32 which blew the serial port on the PC and also, perhaps, on the Pira!  I have tried to send the device reset and intialize commands to the unit via the software but get only "Communications Error".

Any suggestions?

On the PC side, burned serial port can be substituted by commercially available USB to RS232 adapter. This should be based on FTDI chip rather than errorneous Prolific chip. We also offer a suitable adapter in our shop.

In the PIRA32 the serial interface is realized by MAX232 integrated circuit or equivalent in 16-pin DIP package. This $1 IC is easy to be replaced as it is put in a socket. I remember you're our customer so I can send you this IC at no costs.

Hey Jan,

I ordered a replacement on eBay and still the unit is unresponsive.  But I perhaps have the wrong IC.  Original says MAX232CPE (+1440).  The one I tried is MAX232EPE (+1502).

Again, tried reset/initialize, and to "read" encoder data, all report communications error with Magic RDS.

Again, the unit seems to work just fine, just can't be programmed, or read.

Any assistance you can offer is helpful.  Many thanks!

I'll send you the PIRA32 microcontroller for replacement, maybe it is also burned by the PSU issue.
Please give me your actual postal address by email.
