Thanksgiving (U.S. holiday) night, the automation PC completely shut down and because the campus was closed, I had to transfer to less-than-ideal backup programming at the transmitter via remote desktop. I would like to set up a backup automation PC at the transmitter and, in the event audio from the studio fails (due to power outage, computer dying, problems with the studio-to-transmitter link, angry squirrels, etc.), have the stream switch over to the backup.
Because this is a college station, I have to do this on the cheap. In addition to switching something via the serial port, can the Pira.cz silence sensor software start/run another program on the computer (or activate hot keys)? Rather than using an external relay, I have been looking at using two sound cards and software like SoundSwitch or Audio Switcher.
Thoughts? Thanks!
