As to what message to output, I think 'try again later' is misleading. When I tried out your program, as soon as the first user logged off, the second person who was already logged in, got access. So something like, 'Please wait for your turn' would be a lot more informative.
Or, why make it so complicated? You could just mention 'You do not have access to the serial port at this time' and leave it at that.
And when a person logs in successfully, you could output, 'You have gained access to the serial port now'.
Jan, I'm sure you'll come up with something good. (^_^)
The only thing I have to say is after this update, you really should upgrade the version to 1.4!!!
The program deserves it.
