I’m trying to figure out why I get the port to open and the it says opened but then when I push read tab it says timeout the device does not respond now I’ve had problems with the company who sold me the transmitter and I’m wondering if they even installed the RDS board which I paid extra for!

The message "timeout the device does not respond" means following:
  • There's no encoder at all at the end of the cable
  • The encoder is not powered
  • The cable is bad
  • The encoder is connected to another PC COM port
It is necessary to contact the transmitter's seller. We're unable to provide support for 3rd party products. You should buy only proven original equipment with full support, warranty and online documentation. Especially never buy any FM equipment from Asia. In many cases there's no solution for the arising situations.

If the transmitter is on standby could that be a problem?

Ok one more question if should the RDS read EXT or INT? Sorry I know you don’t support my transmitter (where I bought it) but I had a problem with the engineer at he got nasty he didn’t want to help me and told me if I call there he will hang up in my face

INT is probably internal RDS encoder while EXT means that RDS encoder is connected as a separate box. Maybe...

It is preferred to turn on the Default Radiotext feature, for the case that the broadcast automation software stops providing data for any reason. The encoder switches to a default text after specified timeout.

I’m not sure if this should be automatic but when I click on radio text it has a blank text box and the only way to get it to display song is the read button?

Current song info does not show there. It is being sent directly to the encoder.

The purpose of the Virtual ports is explicitly mentioned in the application. You can use the Virtual ports for creating an independent data connection between your broadcast automation system and the RDS encoder.

If your broadcast automation system is installed on another PC and provides now-playing data via serial port and the PCs are connected by serial laplink, then your use is correct. Otherwise it makes no sense.

More likely the now-playing data is provided via TCP or via text file (for which the appropriate tool is the External Text).

A need for a simple step-by-step manual is quite understandable but not applicable at all. Each radio station is unique in the hardware and software solution as well as in the network topology. For each radio station, the setup is strictly individual. I would recommend to contact some local IT experienced person or the broadcast automation system community or use (paid) services of some local FM broadcast equipment vendor.
