Title: Magic RDS 4 Won't Connect
Post by: rogertee1966@gmail.com on December 05, 2025, 11:29:03 pm
We are in the process of configuring the P164 units.  We have 4.  All 4 exhibit the same issue.  Configuration was going fine and suddenly just quit connecting.  We have tried direct connection, 4 different machines, 3 OS's (Win 7, 10 & 11) and even attempted going back to Magic RDS 3.  We can see the box through the web interface i.e. web browser to IP address, without issue.  The RUNDONFIG tool in the Magic RDS software seems to connect but neither the control software nor the RDS Spy connect.  We have checked, double-checked,triple-checked IP and port settings without success.  Any idea of what we might be missing?

Thanks for providing all information. There's no issue of such kind in the Magic RDS 4 or in the devices. You've checked several units and several PC machines so individual failure can be ruled out and the problem is solely related to the setup procedure. In that case, I have to refer you to the device PDF manual, where the setup procedure is described in detail. There's nothing special, just basic rules. If you are not experienced with operating Ethernet devices, get someone who knows the basics.

In particular, make sure that if one side is set as a TCP server, the other side is a TCP client, and vice versa. You don't need to deal with the RDS Spy connection at all, the RDS Spy is a part of the Magic RDS 4 package and, when the connection is working, it is accessible with one button without the need for any additional configuration.

Typically the time required for the setup in local network is ~2 minutes.

Please provide screenshots: TCP setup in the ConfigTool, Connection Overview in the Magic RDS 4 and DHCP configuration in your network router.
