First of all, always use RT+ for current song. Receivers with RT+ support should hold that information on the display even if another text is being broadcast.

Use External Text Sources configuration as proposed at https://pira.cz/forum/index.php?topic=990.0
The delay for each source is user configurable, follow the parameter 'Go to next after [seconds]'

Make sure your firmware version is 2.2h or later as this version implements further options for RT+ item toggle and item running bits. In the External Text Sources, tick the RT+ Item Toggle checkbox only for the now playing source.

If you use XML source, it is the best starting point for RT+.

In the Source:

Always use the RT+ whenever possible. It is easy with the Magic RDS 4. Stations without RT+ are not perceived well on modern receivers.

We usually set following parameters for the now-playing Source (when it is placed in the Output sequence with other Sources):

Go to next after: 30
Keep in cache: 20
Expires after: 180

This establishes 30-seconds interval for the text, no text change "inside" the interval and text automatically disappears from the sequence after 3 minutes until new song is fired.
