I would recommend the VLC player.

The VLC supports tons of command line options, incl. quit, selection of the audio output device etc.:

Basic use with the Silence Detector is showed on screenshots here:

Unfortunately, there are no more examples from us.

Is there a manual that shows examples of possible commands to call an external MP3 player?

If no manual, can you show a screen shot of an example of calling an external MP3 player (such as Winamp)?

Do you know how you would steer an external MP3 player (such as Winamp) to play out a specific sound card, if it were not the default Windows sound card?

Thank you!

Is it possible, of course. The best method is to use some external sound player which supports command line options. You may start playing by the Open/Play option and stop playing by the Kill application option.
The built-in mp3 player can play only on the sound card which is selected as 'default' in Windows.

In regard to Pira CZ Silence Detector:

I searched for these questions/answers and did not find it in the forum, and I don't see a manual....

1.  Is it possible to have The Silence Detector program play a sound file as an Alarm Task?

2.  With 2 sound cards in a Windows computer, is it possible to have the Silence Detector program monitor Sound Card 1 for silence, and play a sound file out via Sound Card 2?

Thank you!
