This issue is discussed in Troubleshooting section in the pdf manual and in the Installation guide section 3.2.1.
You use the encoder in loopthrough mode and the MPX level is probably greater than 3.3 Vpp so the on-board jumper JP1 must be in position 2-3 instead of 1-2.

Hi Jan & All,

I Installed the PIRA32 Enconder on line recently with our local FM Community Station all with good results and lots of feed
back from listeners saying that they had noticed text on there car radio with track and artist details. but after a couple of
weeks of the RDS Encoder being on line we started to get complains that as soon as the announcer played a music track it was slightly distorted but not the announcers voice , which seemed very odd and something i couldn't pick listening to a receiver but apparently
in more weaker signal areas this problem was quite noticeable.
So in desperation i turned off the RDS encoder so the MPX Composite Audio went straight through (ie input to output on the PIRA32 Encoder) and it stopped this audio problem on air. I was wondering what could cause this ? would it be a slight phase error with the 19khz pilot and the RDS encoder output as the station stereo program is sent by landline to a link room where the audio goes into a Orban 2200 processor and the MPX Composite output feeds the input of the RDS encoder and the Output then feeds the Link transmitter. as soon as the RDS encoder was turned off the Composite signal goes straight through to the Link tx and this fault cleared.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
