Our radio station wants to implement a silence detection tool. After testing Pira CZ Silence Detector we're sure that would be the right thing to us, BUT...
As our broadcast server we are using a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine in an external data center, controlled via MS Remote Desktop. And that's the "BUT"... Connecting by Remote Desktop will automatically deactivate all sound devices without any opportunity to change that! In fact, Pira CZ Silence Detector will not work.
Then we tried UltraVNC to connect to the server - it does not deactivate the sound devices, so we managed it (we thought). If now someone connects by Remote Desktop to the server, the sound device crashes and our broadcast software stopps playing. You see, working with another VNC application is not a solution at all - the risk is much too high!
A solution to get Pira CZ Silence Detector working with Windows Server and Remote Desktop would be Kernel Streaming. We're running the Claesson Edward's Breakaway Live audio processing tool successfully because it uses Kernel Streaming... Maybe that's an development idea? Or are there any other ideas?
Thank you in advance...
Cheers,
Reto
