Silence detector's sensitivity

A presenter at our local community radio station had a problem the other day: it appears that when he started fading down the announcement in order to go on with the live program, the silence detector kicked in and started playing a song. It took the presenter one full minute to regain control and continue with his program. Has anyone had a similar experience?

The silence detector's sensitivity as well as timeout value are user adjustable so that behavior can be simply eliminated by a correct setting.
