Hi Andrew, thank you for your valuable post, it entirely makes a sense. When I was writing first version of this software for analogue FM radios (I think it was in 2005), I had no idea how the area of use will expand 10 years later.
The minimum threshold value is now selectable in version 1.4d, down to -96 dBFS.

Hello Jan.

I think it would be great if you make the treshold lower than -40 in future versions. Lots of radio stations use Axia Livewire sound system. There are no sound cards at all - Livewire utilizes AoIP (audio over IP, like SIP, may be you know), and sound level may be even -90 dBFS, for example. Nominal audio level in Livewire system is -20 dBFS. Sometimes the level falls below -40 dBFS for a long time, and false alarms occurs. There are no problem to set the alarm activation time a little bit longer, but in this case we lose the possibility to detect short periods of silence.

Example: we have a task to detect short and rare audio "drop-outs" in digital audio system. It may take place when an ethernet card begins to glitch. We set the alarm time to 1 sec, treshhold to -40 dB... and our "Inbox e-mail" is full of false alarms. It's a pity. Many modern songs have quiet places, and Silence Detector triggers on it. But if we have the possibility to set the level to -96 dB, we could solve the task. So, it would be VERY useful to set the level lower than -40.

Thank you in advance.

Hi.

I want to know if is possible to have less threshold than -40 like -80. Some kind of music like clasic use to have very low levels for a couple of second and Pira sends false alarms with. Could be great if there is any way to have more threshold or change it to complete silence. Thanks you.

-80 dB is under noise level of almost all soundcards. Adjust higher sensitivity of the input using the Windows mixer.

You may set up to 1 hour

Old post, I know.

I would suggest setting the time delay longer before alarm activation.
